ETHAN MURRAY

My journey began at the age of 13 when I started working for my family business. My parents are both long-term fitness facility owners and have a combined total of 55 years of experience in the fitness industry. While working at my parent’s fitness facilities, I had the opportunity to attend any lectures they presented on various topics, such as dieting, creating fitness programs, and how to achieve your goals. After realising this career was what I was passionate about, I obtained my formal Personal Trainer qualifications.

At age 16, I started taking on my first clients, closely followed by designing and instructing HIIT programs and various group classes. I have actively trained and competed in CrossFit, Power Lifting, Olympic Lifting, Swimming, and I have achieved my Black Belt in Muay Thai. It is safe to say that fitness, health, well-being, and educating others are part of my DNA.

​ My passion is to help people change their lives in the most straightforward and realistic way possible. With so much conflicting information, it can be very frustrating and confusing to know what to do. I will teach you my methods to help you lose weight and achieve the goals you desire; everyone’s ideal look or result is different, and it is my job to give you that.

  • What food should I cut out to lose weight?
    When it comes to nutrition and diet, it’s all about moderation, not complete avoidance. If you avoid the food you enjoy altogether, you’ll find it hard to stay motivated and make good choices. You don’t need to cut foods completely. Instead, discuss your fitness goals with your personal trainer and learn how much of these foods you can consume to keep a healthy balance.
  • What does a healthy diet look like?

    It all comes down to portion sizes. Most healthy foods will have calories, and the larger your portion, the more calories you’ll eat. You will gain or maintain weight if you’re not using those calories to exercise. If you want to lose weight without too much exercise, the best method is portion control.
  • What if I can’t afford to eat healthy foods?
    Organic foods don’t come cheap, but everyone can afford to make healthier decisions. The most affordable way to shop for fresh fruit and vegetables is to buy them when they’re in season.   • Do I need to work out every day?
    Nope, you absolutely don’t need to work out every single day. You don’t want to injure yourself during a workout, so you’ll need 1-2 days of complete rest per week to allow your body time to recover.
  • How do I increase muscle mass?
    There are quite a few ways you can increase your muscle mass. You can add heavy strength and resistance training to your routine, but it’s also important to take note of your diet. Your body will only put out what you put in, so make sure you choose foods that will give you the best results.
  • Do I need to stretch before working out?
    Stretching and warming up before a workout allows you to get the maximum benefits from the session. It doesn’t need to be too complicated, just enough of a warm-up to get your blood pumping.
  • How long will it take to see results?
    Unfortunately, change won’t happen overnight, but every day you commit to eating healthy and exercising will bring you one step closer to achieving your goals. Typically, you’ll see noticeable improvements to your overall health and wellbeing after 6-8 weeks. However, just because you can’t see vast improvements doesn’t mean the changes to your lifestyle aren’t working. So, keep at it, and you’ll see change eventually.
  • Do I need to do cardio?
    Essentially, if cardio doesn’t align with your goals, you don’t really need to do it. For example, if you’re looking to build muscle, you won’t want to do too much cardio as your body will use the protein as fuel. Many people immediately think of long treks on the treadmill as the only way to work cardio into your day, but there are options to suit any lifestyle.   • How does my mental well-being affect my physical well-being?
    If you consider your body a vessel, your mind is the control panel, and if there’s something awry with the controls, the vessel won’t be able to function at full capacity. So to give 100% to our nutrition and exercise, we first need to check in with ourselves and ensure we’re taking care of our mental health.
  • Doesn’t exercise improve your mental health? Can I just do that?
    When you exercise, your brain releases endorphins which make you feel happy and positively contribute to your mental well-being.
